zimdesk is an open source (GPL) web operating system based on the Cloud computing paradigm. It provides users with access to a virtual desktop or Web desktop, Operating system and a comprehensive range of Web applications. The system is similar to that of a feature-rich pc-based operating system, except Zimdesk is entirely browser-based and the installation of additional software on a local computer is not required.

The look and feel of the desktop is made possible by the use of AJAX, Flash and Java when combined they can create the look and feel of a desktop application this is often referred to as a Rich Internet Application.

* zimearth - Map application with access to Google, Yahoo and MSN maps.
