The concept of the state as parasite was espoused by Vladimir Lenin, anarcho-capitalists, and others.[1] The idea is that the state feeds on the labors of the people. Imperialism signified to Lenin the growth of a gigantic and parasitic state at the expense of individual and group autonomy.[2] In The State and Revolution, Lenin described the state's power as a "parasitic excrescence" and claimed that it would ultimately wither away.
